Domaine de La Chaise L'Originelle AOP Touraine, 12%, 2014
A classic dry Chenin Blanc. Hints of greengage and honey on the nose. Crisp and elegant with minerality and hints of quince on the palate. Delightful with fish, chicken and mild cheeses. Ideal with rich, creamy sauces. This wine is only made in exceptional vintages (in other years the grapes go into Sparkling wine blends). 2014 was an excellent year in this part of the Loire, especially for those that dared to pick late. The wine was fermented in very old oak barrels. Oak is barely noticeable on the palate, but this style of winemaking softens the natural acidity of Loire Chenin. Drinking very well now, but will continue to mature for many years - Good Loire Chenin Blancs are amongst the most long-lived of all wines.
